Resources, Quotes, and Scriptures Mentioned:

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
— Proverbs 16:9

Read Rabab’s story in Joshua here.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
— Isaiah 55:8
And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the Lord.
— Joshua 9:14
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
— Romans 16:17-18
When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.
— C.S. Lewis

P(ractice)A(pply)L(ive) Prompts:

In a world that rewards shortcuts, compromise, and instant gratification, choosing the high way can feel lonely, costly, and countercultural. Yet the call to follow Christ is a call upward—to a path marked by discipline, integrity, and spiritual depth.

Jesus never promised the road would be easy. But He did promise it would lead to life.

Using the P.A.L. method (Practice – Apply – Live), let’s explore how to practically choose God’s higher way in our everyday decisions.

P – Practice (Reflect on the Truth)

Before we can walk the higher path, we must reflect on where we stand now. The Word of God is our mirror and compass—revealing when we've strayed and calling us back to alignment.

📖 Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

  • Are you settling for what's easy, popular, or self-serving instead of what’s holy?

  • Have you mistaken comfort for calling?

📖 Proverbs 4:26-27 (KJV)
“Ponder the path of thy feet... Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”

  • Are there compromises in your path that need confronting?

  • What distractions or detours keep pulling you off the higher way?

Apply (Take Practical Steps)

Reflection without action leads to spiritual stagnation. Once you’ve identified areas where you're walking low, it’s time to course-correct with bold obedience.

📖 Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

  • What Scripture will you stand on this week to guide your decisions?

  • How can you choose the high way in one specific situation—whether in your words, choices, or relationships?

📖 Romans 12:21 (KJV)
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

  • Who do you need to forgive or bless instead of resent?

  • What would “overcoming with good” look like for you today?

Walking the high way often means sacrificing the right to be right. It may mean silence over retaliation, truth over popularity, or integrity over instant results.

L – Live (Transform Habits & Mindset)

Choosing the high way isn’t a one-time act—it’s a lifestyle. It requires consistency, courage, and a mind set on things above.

📖 Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV)
“...narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

  • What spiritual habits will keep you on the narrow way? (e.g. prayer, fasting, accountability)

  • Are you willing to be one of the few?

📖 Colossians 3:2 (KJV)
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

  • What are you focusing on—eternal values or temporary comforts?

  • How can your priorities today reflect the high way of heaven?

Choosing the high way will cost you: pride, convenience, and maybe even approval. But what you gain is far greater—peace, purpose, and the presence of God.

This week, when you’re tempted to settle, shrink, or retaliate, pause and ask:
Is this the high way?
If not—walk higher.
He’ll meet you there.

You are not alone.
